Grade 5 2015!

Unfortunately, this is the last post I will be making in grade 5…

BUT DON’T WORRY!!! I will still have my blog next year. This is a video of my grade 5 memories. I hope you enjoy.

Inquiry question about SPACE!

At the start of this term our grade all did an inquiry question about space, something that we wanted to find out about space. These were my questions and these are the answers to them.

1. How many planets are there in the solar system?

A. There are nine planets in our solar system (not including the moon or Pluto).

2. How many people have landed on the moon?

A. In total, twelve people have landed on the moon.

There are many more questions I have on SPACE, but unfortunately some of them can’t be answered yet, but I hope they will be soon.

VSSEC Excursion

On Thursday the 26th of November 5M and 5V went on our excursion to Victorian Space Science Education Centre. It was so much fun! We learnt about static electricity, electricity, Mars life and more. We had a turn In Mission Control and we also researched life and substances on Mars (sort of). Here are some photos from the excursion.

My favourite part of the excursion was mission control because it was fun to do the system checks and to tell the scientists to leave! It was so exciting and I hope I get to go there again!

Moon Diary

We have been filling in a Moon diary throughout November to see the patterns of the Moon and its phases. Some phases that the Moon goes through are waning crescent, waning gibbous, last quarter, new, waxing crescent, waxing gibbous, full. Some patterns I noticed with the Moon diary are that the set is AM and the rise is PM. I also noticed that waxing means growing and waning means disappearing. A new moon is when you can’t see the moon at all (0% visible) and a full moon is when you can see the whole moon (100% visible). These only happen after a full cycle of the moon phases.

Sports report

Hi I’m Aleecia and I was the captain of the girls batennis today. We played Laurimer. It was a great game, with the final scores being 26-15 our way. The sports awards go to the whole team for a competitive match.

Contractions

Contractions are two words that are joined together, and shortened. Here are some examples of some contractions.

Can’t – Can not

Isn’t – Is not

I’m – I am

she’ll – She will

Don’t – Do not

Those are simple contractions, here are some strange ones;

Science

Today we learnt about the way the lunar system moves. We think that the Earth rotates anticlockwise and orbits the Sun anticlockwise, the Sun stays still and the moon orbits the Earth anticlockwise. We also think that the Sun rises in the East and sets in the West. We think the Moon rises in the East and sets in the West as well. Here is what we thought;

Leadership Policeman talk

LeAdership

This afternoon a policeman came in to talk to us about leadership. He really help us understand leadership and how to handle it.

He told us a story about him when he was younger. He said that he was really shy and wouldn’t have spoken to in front of a big crowd because he was so shy. He told us to challenge ourselves and be confident and to reach out and grab opportunities by both hands.

He told us another story about being a police officer and that on Black Saturday the police officers didn’t know what to do so he took matters into his own hands. He knew what to do so he helped everyone do it. It started of with a small bunch of officers and then it grew into a lot more people. He said to be a good role model to the people around you so they do the right thing.

He told us another story (he told a lot of stories, which was good) about him getting  a higher role in the police force. He was told to be really confident and yell and be loud and bossy. So a colleague came late to work so he yelled at him and bossed him around lots. He said to lead by example so other people don’t do the same thing that might be a bit wrong.
